What's for sale?

This is an Edwardian, large, 40cm or 16", oval, blue and white serving platter by Wedgwood & Co in their "Burleigh" pattern, which is an interesting, Art Nouveau design in dark blue.

The platter is nicely dished with a scalloped edge and raised pattern. It's made from semi-porcelain, which is a hard, non-translucent earthenware.

Platters are a traditional way to present food and are perfect for Christmas dinner. Old china tableware can continue to be used and enjoyed, but it shouldn't be put in a dishwasher or left immersed in hot water. Wash by hand with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Who made it?

This was made by Wedgwood & Co Ltd of Tunstall, Staffordshire. This is a different manufacturer to Josiah Wedgwood. The marks on the base dates it to around 1906 and reads:

  • royal semi porcelain
  • wedgwood & co ld
  • england
  • burleigh

It's also impressed:

  • 305

What condition is it in?

  • Second-hand
  • In good condition
  • The rim is worn in a couple of places

What are the measurements?

  • 40.5cm long
  • 30cm wide
  • 1291 grams
