What's for sale?
This is a superb, Art Deco brooch signed Trifari KTF and made around 1935. The design is typical of that period and uses a strong combination of shapes and colours.
The body is cast in a silver-coloured metal and arranged as a pattern of concentric semicircles beneath a horizontal bar. In this top section are eight clear, rectangular rhinestones in two groups of four. Surrounding them are multiple Pavé settings of smaller, clear rhinestones. Finally, there's the row of nine deep blue rhinestones, each in their own four-prong setting. The pin is secured by a rollover clasp.
We think it's a lovely design and as eye-catching today as it was when it was made.
Who made it and when?
It was made by the American costume jewellery maker Trifari. The KTF signature was introduced around 1935 and refers to the senior partners Gustavo Trifari, Leo Krussman, and Carl Fishel. The design looks like those of Alfred Philippe, who joined the company in 1930.
