What's for sale?
This is an original, stoneware, mineral water bottle from the late 19th or very early 20th centuries. The transfer print on the front reads "Rochdale & Oldham Mineral Water & Bottling Co Limited" and is arranged around the logo of a sheep in a sling.
Up until the mid 20th century, Stoneware bottles like these were used widely in retailing. They were produced in large numbers and would differentiate themselves through their shape, colours and graphics. Some had a screw top, but most had a cork bung.
Stoneware bottles were mass-produced and roughly made, so faults could be found even when new. Because they were made to be thrown away, most of those around today will have come from old rubbish tips and will have faults of various kinds.
