What's for sale?
This is a surplus East German military messenger bag in black leather. It's tough and well made.
This is the last one of these that we have in stock. The photographs are of one of several that we had in stock and their condition is similar to this one.
It has a fold-over flap on the front, secured by a metal clasp. Inside, on the front, are a small pocket, pen holders and two larger tubular holders. Behind are the two large, main compartments.
The small pocket could hold several credit cards, the larger tubular holders are wide enough for USB thumb drives.
Both main compartments offer the full height of the bag. The rear is 240mm high x 170mm wide x 60mm deep (6.75" x 9.50" x 2.5"). The front is not quite as wide.
The shoulder strap is attached by two carabiners and two metal D rings. The length can be adjusted by the buckle and can also be altered by adjusting the placement of a number of metal pins along the strap, so there's quite a bit of flexibility. The shoulder strap also has a connecting strap which helps keep the bag close to the body when walking.
Finally, on one side of the bag is another short strap. This could be used for handling or for securing a scarf.
We've shown a pen, 5" smart phone and book (15cm x 21cm x 2.5cm or 6" x 8" x 1") to demonstrate the bag's size.
It was made for the East German Army (DDR NVA) and is probably from the 1980s.
