What's for sale?

This is a desktop perpetual calendar, made during the 1930s by Charles Letts & Company of London.

It's the "Junior Round" model from their "Calendox" range. This version is in the rarer green.

Setting the date is achieved by the turning the knob on the front, so that the current day is circled and the previous days appear struck though. A similar knob on the back changes the month. The window is celluloid.

Matching the day of the week to the current year's calendar requires manual intervention. Open the back and inside are paper templates which you use to allign the date with the correct the day of the week.

Bakelite has become a generic term for items made of the early plastics and resins, like Lucite, Catalin, Galalith, Bakelite and urea-formaldehyde. This hasn't been tested to determine which type it is.
